A Call to Action – Celebrate Healthy Sleep!

  • Interview a credible sleep expert for your World Sleep Day content
  • Organize an awareness activity in your community
  • Write, create or otherwise connect with your public audience about sleep health

The 2023 Theme: Sleep Is Essential for Health

The theme for the upcoming World Sleep Day is Sleep is Essential for Health. Just like eating well and exercising, sleep is a behavior that is foundational to one’s physical, mental and social well-being. “Just because sleep is a natural behavior does not mean that sleep should be taken for granted,” says Fang Han, MD, Co-chair of World Sleep Day 2023. Co-chair Lourdes DelRosso, MD, PhD adds that “People should think about sleep like they do other important healthy behaviors such as exercise – as something to reflect upon and, when appropriate, improve so that one can feel better and remain healthier over time.”

Activity organizers can find support and resources on worldsleepday.org, the official website of World Sleep Day. Activity submissions are now open and are being freely published online after review. Plan and submit your activity soon!

Connect with a Sleep Expert

Members of the media, including those in non-English-speaking markets, can contact World Sleep Society to help schedule interviews and discussions about sleep health with sleep experts. World Sleep Society encourages individuals and organizations with public platforms to promote sleep health on World Sleep Day. “Our patients and people of all ages across the world can enhance their overall health and well-being by prioritizing sleep and embracing strategies to improve sleep and circadian health. The more our members, activity organizers and the media can share evidence-supported knowledge about sleep and circadian health, the better,” says Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD, president of World Sleep Society.

The upcoming World Sleep Day will be the 17th annual call to action to celebrate sleep health. World Sleep Day is organized by World Sleep Society – an international society of sleep researchers and clinicians – and is chaired by Dr. Lourdes DelRosso of University of California San Francisco – Fresno and Dr. Fang Han of Peking University People’s Hospital.
