Highlighting Chronic Pain, Illness, and Disability Through a Story

You know the classic go-to image of an iceberg? The one that is used to represent how much of something is under the surface and goes unseen? That is how many sufferers of chronic pain or illness describe their experience. Many individuals have an invisible impairment or disability that prevents them from engaging in everyday activities.

For this first-time author, Erika, those activities could be as minor as washing dishes or stepping onto a curb. She has to consistently manage her energy level and pain tolerance based on the day’s schedule. She also has sweet kids in her life that ask questions, aim to understand, and continue to learn about what this is like for someone who has pain that is unseen. So what’s the problem? As it stands, she has yet to find a children’s book that represents someone with chronic pain. So she wrote one!

The book is expected to come out by the end of the calendar year, and we’re expecting positive results from a community of currently underrepresented individuals. By donating to Erika’s GoFundMe, you are supporting learners all over. You’ll be collectively working to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion. With your support, chronic pain can be a part of the stories that uniquely make up our bookshelves, free little
libraries, classrooms, and more.

**Bonus! Donating at least $50 gets you a signed, personalized copy from the author. Do you know someone who could benefit from a little encouragement as they navigate their journey with pain? Donate and share some of that info so Erika can send them a little boost.
