BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (PRWEB) July 08, 2022
BLR’s EHS Daily Advisor honored this year’s winners of the 2022 Safety Standout Awards for demonstrating unmatched dedication to safety and performance at its EHS Now virtual ceremony, held June 16, 2022. The awards are sponsored by SafeStart, a human factors management company. After the ceremony, Peter Batrowny, an industry-leading global environment, health, safety, and physical security executive, presented a keynote session titled “Speeding Up Safety Success!”
EHS Daily Advisor extends its congratulations to the following winners on showing commendable dedication to safety and compliance in the workplace:
Best Overall Safety Program and Culture: Verizon
In its award application, Verizon discusses its risk management standard. “We score the hazards, taking into account the level of controls we have in place to eliminate or manage them, to determine which hazards have the highest residual risks.” In addition, Verizon has developed Lifesaving Principles, stressing work standards like work-zone protection, safeguard against electricity, safe driving habits, and much more.
Innovations in Safety Training Award: Ally Safety
Ally Safety is a company known for its accessible and engaging safety training videos. The company posts the videos for free on YouTube so anyone interested, specifically struggling small businesses, can access high-quality training content. Ally Safety has embraced using QR codes to access this content and plans to create virtual reality videos later this year.
Best Safety Committee: Phillips 66
Phillips 66 is an energy manufacturing and logistics company that transports, stores, and markets fuels and products internationally. The company’s Energy Safety Improvement Teams (ESITs) mainly consist of volunteers, with high employee encouragement to join, as well. Its wide variety of experienced members ensures that all aspects of company safety are addressed and covered.
Moving Beyond Compliance Award: EV Construction
EV Construction is unique in its focus on growth of behavioral safety and company culture. This includes hiring for character, management’s open recognition of safe behavior, and on-site project specific to safety committees to empower site staff to take safety seriously, among other distinctions. EV has a variety of programs and procedures in place that exceed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, as well.
Young Safety Professional Excellence Award: Rocco Martini
Rocco Martini, safety specialist at Shell Polymers in Monaca, Pennsylvania, developed and led a series of EHS training for Shell employees, which would later become required. It is now considered the best practice for Shell employees for a safe mobilization to site. He is also the leader of Shell’s behavioral safety program, training its employees in performance, peer observation, and safety.
